Quezon City Police District head Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar relieved two rookie policemen on Sunday after a drug suspect managed to escape from their custody.

Eleazar identified the policemen as PO1 Jayson Landayan and PO1 Randy Yape, both of the anti-illegal drugs enforcement unit of the Novaliches Police Station.

Investigation showed that Landayan and Yape had just brought suspect Jhan Jhan Abacian to the prosecutor and were escorting him back to the police station at 12 midnight on Saturday when the detainee escaped.

Abacian reportedly managed to unlock his handcuff and jump out of the policemen’s vehicle before running towards Sauyo market along Quirino Highway near Franco St., Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches.

The policemen ran after Abacian but failed to catch the suspect.

Eleazar reminded policemen not to become complacent when escorting suspects.

“Itong mga ganitong insidente ay dapat maging aral sa ating kapulisan. Sila ay dapat na laging alerto at laging nakabantay upang hindi matakasan,” Eleazar said in a statement.

He said that Yape and Landayan would face administrative and criminal cases due to the incident.

Abacian was arrested in a buy bust operation last April 12. Reportedly seized from him were eight sachets of shabu, one sachet of marijuana, cell phones, a Yamaha Mio scooter used for drug transactions, and the buy-bust money. /cbb
