Pagasa: Summer starts as northeast monsoon ends
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced the end of the northeast monsoon on Tuesday, ushering in the start of summer in the country despite light rain in some areas.
Vicente Malano, Pagasa administrator, said in a statement that the start of summer meant that “day-to-day weather will become warmer and drier in most parts of the country.”
“This would also signify the start of the dry season,” his statement said.
The weather bureau said most parts of the country had already been experiencing high temperatures.
Winds from Siberia, which had been keeping some parts of the country cool, would weaken, the Pagasa said.
Light rains and thunderstorms, however, would be experienced during afternoons or evenings in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Aurora and the Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao regions.
On Wednesday, Metro Manila would experience light rains and isolated thunderstorms.
With the onset of summer, “the general public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress and take note of the need to optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption,” Malano said in his statement.
