ALBUERA, Leyte—A businesswoman was wounded after a lone gunman shot her while she was parking her vehicle in front of the municipal hall on Thursday morning.

Mercy Tudio, 40, suffered a bullet wound in the stomach and was recuperating in a hospital in Ormoc City, Leyte.

Tudio owns a store in the public market and operates a money lending business, said Barangay Poblacion chairman Rustico Menesis.

FEATURED STORIES

Municipal employees immediately brought the victim to a hospital in Ormoc City after the shooting.

Menesis said the shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity and the target may be his wife, Albuera Mayor Rosa Menesis, since both women had the same blue Kia Picanto with a temporary plate number.

Senior Inspector Ronald Espina, Albuera police chief, however, said they had yet to determine the motive of the shooting and the identity of the gunman./lb
