Missing fisherman’s remains found off Bohol town

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Authorities found on Sunday the body of a fisherman who was reported missing last week in Candijay town, Bohol.

Alfredo Balbuena was found floating in the vicinity of Lonod Reef in Barangay Cogtong in Candjay by fisherman Christopher Penaso 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Penaso immediately alerted the authorities, said Jeryl Lacang-Fuentes, head of the municipal disaster risk and reduction management office (MDRRMO).

The body of Balbuena was recovered by a search team composed of personnel from Philippine National Police (PNP)-Candijay, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), MDRRMO and Bantay Dagat at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Balbuena, 40, a resident of Sitio Sagumay, Baranay Can-olin in Candijay town, had a fever when he left the village on March 14.

His family, however, stopped him from sailing but he insisted on going out to sea. His family asked help from authorities when he did not return. /je
