STL ‘bookies’ syndicate busted in Lucena

LUCENA CITY–Police arrested a group allegedly behind the illegal operation in the guise of Small Town Lottery (STL) called bookies here on Tuesday night.

Anti-illegal gambling operatives conducted a raid in the coastal village of Dalahican around 9:35 p.m., according to Quezon police director Senior Supt. Rhoderick Armamento.

Arrested were Nancy Dinglasan, Joseph Contreras and siblings Ramel, Ronnel and Jeniffer Senior, all suspected bet collectors for “bookies” operation.

The suspected group leader, Rolando Senior, remained at large.

The operatives, led by Supt. Vicente Cabatingan, Lucena police chief, caught the suspects in the act of organizing the collected bets using legitimate STL forms.

Police also seized money bets and lottery collection paraphernalia.

The suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act No. 9287 (An Act Increasing the Penalties for Illegal Numbers Game, Amending Certain Provision of Presidential Act 1602 and for Other Purposes).
