Source: Judiciary groups pressured into calling for Sereno’s resignation
Three ranking Supreme Court (SC) officials allegedly “pressured” board members of the Regional Trial Court Judges Association (RTCJA), the Philippine Judges Association (PJA), and the SC unions to call for the resignation of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, a source told the Inquirer on Sunday.
A day before another “Red Monday,” the source said groups would read out manifestos calling for Sereno’s resignation at the flag ceremony at the Supreme Court premises in Manila on Monday.
The source said all judiciary employees, including judges, were “instructed to wear red to support the call for resignation.”
But the report said members of the Metropolitan Trial Court Judges Association of the Philippines (MetCJAP) had “unanimously” refused to join call for resignation.
RTCJA has also reportedly questioned the PJA board on the resignation manifesto.
Sereno is currently on an indefinite leave as she faces an impending impeachment trial at the Senate and a quo warranto petition at the Supreme Court seeking to nullify her appointment.
Last Thursday, the House justice committee, voting 38-2, found probable cause to impeach Sereno. /atm
