LUCENA CITY – A stray bullet hit a 10-year old girl when an unidentified gunman targeted her father in Dolores town in Quezon province Saturday night, police said.

Senior Insp. Eric Veluz, Dolores police chief, said the real target of the shooting was the victim’s father, Malasmas de la Luna, 44, a farmer in Barangay (village) San Mateo.

“That was admitted to us by the father himself. Apparently, a grudge was the motive. But he has yet to disclose the details,” Veluz said in a phone interview Sunday.

Police said the father, who came from a drinking session at about 9:30 p.m., was in front of his house when he was shot at by the gunman. The bullet, however, accidentally hit his daughter in the terrace.

The victim, whose name was withheld by the police, sustained a bullet wound in her right shoulder. She is receiving treatment in a hospital.
