Farmer, wife shot dead in Lanao del Norte

ILIGAN CITY – Unidentified men aboard a motorcycle has shot and killed a farmer and his wife in Tubod, Lanao del Norte, authorities said on Wednesday.

In a report, the Tubod police said Ambron Tomanto, 48, and wife, Maricel Managaytay, 42, were in Barangay Bulod in Tubod to purchase hollow blocks when attacked around 5 p.m. Tuesday. The couple hailed from from Barangay Quezon in Tangub City.

A witness, police said, told investigators that the armed men casually arrived and shot Tomanto and then his wife before fleeing.

The couple was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died.

Lanao del Norte police chief Sr. Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag said they were considering several angles in the killing of the couple.

“The most probable angle was Tomanto’s being a witness in the killing of a policeman but we are not dismissing other possibilities,” Cabanag told the Inquirer on Wednesday.                        /kga
