The camp of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Monday said the tax evasion allegation is a “non-starter.”

In a statement, Atty. Jojo Lacanilao, one of the spokespersons of Sereno said “Chief Justice Sereno faithfully paid the tax due to her earnings covering the years 2004 to 2009 when she was the co-legal counsel of the Republic of the Philippines in the PIATCO case.”

“The issue is a non-starter. Lahat ng kailangang bayaran, binayaran ni Chief Justice. Wala po silang makikitang tax evasion,” he added.

Records of the Bureau of the Internal Revenue, according to Lacanilao, would prove that Sereno had paid all of her taxes amounting to P8.67 million. /je
