Lawyer of Kerwin Espinosa hurt in Cebu ambush
CEBU CITY — The lawyer of self-confessed drug distributor Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr. was injured after still unidentified assailants attacked him along one of the busiest streets in Cebu City on broad daylight Monday.
Lawyer Jonnah John Ungab, also vice mayor of Ronda town in southern Cebu, suffered a gunshot wound in the head and was brought to a nearby hospital. He was with his wife, Pearl, when the incident happened. Pearl was unharmed.
According to SPO1 Winston Ybanez of the Cebu City homicide section, Ungab was driving his car past 11 a.m. when two unidentified suspects shot him along S. Osmeña Street, North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.
Police said that Ungab accompanied Espinosa earlier in court located at the Qimonda IT Center, where the accused was convicted for violating the election gun ban as he was caught carrying a firearm in 2010. The illegal possession of firearms case, on the other hand, was dismissed.
Ungab was the second lawyer of Espinosa who was ambushed by unidentified gunmen.
On August 23, 2016, another lawyer of Espinosa – Rogelio Bato Jr. – in Leyte, was shot dead by men on board a white pick-up and a motorcycle. The killers of Bato were still unidentified. /kga
