Driver dozes off at wheel, hits 4-year-old girl in Parañaque

A four-year old girl died while two others were injured after a man fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the victims in Parañaque City on Tuesday evening.

Abraham Tria, 53, was driving his Mitsubishi Lancer Sedan along Quirino Avenue at about 8:00 p.m., the Southern Police District (SPD) said in a spot report released Wednesday.

The SPD disclosed that Tria fell asleep as he was traversing north towards Barangay San Dionisio.

The driver then crashed into a street lamp post and accidentally hit three pedestrians in the area, the report said.

The police said four year-old girl, identified as Princiess Merrielyn Marcelo, was rushed to the Ospital ng Parañaque but was declared dead on arrival at 9:01 p.m. Two other victims, identified as Nickie Josh Orosco, 8, and Jowena Siguisabal, 28, were reported injured.

The remains of the girl were brought to Guevara Funeral Service for autopsy, the SPD said. The case is still under investigation. /je
