The Mayon volcano continues to pose a threat to the province of Albay as a weak lava fountaining episode and an ash plume were observed on it Sunday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) recorded a sporadic lava fountaining event with booming sound and ash eruption with a height of 500 meters at 10:38 a.m.

Bryan Marfito, Science Research Specialist of Phivolcs, said the eruption lasted for about two hours.

He said the agency was not able to record the height of the lava fountain since the volcano was partially obscurred by clouds.

No lava flows were recorded during the eruption. /cbb
