Pagasa warns against morning exercise due to smog

/ 11:19 AM November 18, 2011

MANILA, Philippines — Smog, a combination of smoke and fog caused by polluted air, poses a threat to the health of people exercising in the morning, a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has advised the public, especially the elderly, to avoid exercising in the morning because of exposure to smog.

Pagasa weather forecaster Mario Ordinaryo was quoted as saying that smog comes from cold and humid air mixing with smoke pollution from cars and factories. It is the cold temperature during the early morning which causes smog to go down near the ground level.

Ordinaryo said that it would be better to exercise in the afternoon when smog has not yet been formed and the pollution from cars and factories were high in the sky.
