Priest apologizes for turning church into a ballroom

He probably wanted to give his religious calling a more celebratory touch, but turning his parish church into a ballroom was something that Fr. Wilfredo Lucas would live to regret.

“He was very apologetic,” Msgr. Bart Santos, vicar general of the Diocese of Malolos, said of the parish priest of the San Miguel Arcangel Church in Plaridel, Bulacan, whose altar was turned into a dance floor.

In a television report on Tuesday, a video clip showed the priest dancing with a partner before a colorfully lit altar supposedly as part of his birthday celebration.

The report said the priest would usually hold events inside the church to scrimp on venue costs. But this latest caper did not sit well with some parishioners.

“We are already investigating the case. I have instructed our vicar general to talk with Fr. Willy Lucas. I am sorry this happened,” Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros told reporters. —Tina G. Santos
