Restless Mayon continues to spew ash, molten lava

Molten lava continued to burst out of Mayon volcano on Wednesday, its fourth lava fountaining recorded by the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs).

Based on Phivolcs updated report, Mayon volcano spewed lava about 1:54 p.m.

Several residents at Ligñon Hill, located 11 kilometers southeast of the volcano, claimed to hear a rumbling sound during the volcano’s lava fountaining.

The ash plume was recorded to reach a towering height of three kilometers and has a direction of southwest, Phivolcs report showed.

The Mayon volcano has already registered three episodes of lava fountaining on Wednesday morning alone.

Alert level 4 at Mt. Mayon is still hoisted over the region as the active volcano continued to spew lava and ash columns over various towns in Albay province. /jpv
