Phivolcs: Another phreatic eruption recorded on Mayon
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded another phreatic eruption on Sunday morning at Mayon Volcano, Albay.
The Mayon Volcano once again spewed “ash plume” at 11:43 a.m that lasted for about 15 minutes based on seismic record, Phivolcs said in its 3:30 p.m. advisory.
A sulfuric odor and traces of ash were found on Camalig, Albay after the eruption.
Earlier, Phivolcs said in a separate advisory that the Mayon Volcano also had a phreatic eruption at 8:49 a.m. that lasted for 5 minutes.
Due to earlier the eruption, residents from Barangay (village) Anoling, Camalig smell a sulfurous odor and rumbling sounds were heard, the advisory said.
The Philvocs still advised the affected residents not to enter the 6 kilometer permanent danger zone to avoid harm caused by sudden explosions.
Civil aviation authorities were also advised to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit for sudden eruption might happen, the advisory added. /je
