The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) is mulling over the imposition of a gun ban in Tondo during celebrations for the Feast of Sto. Niño this January 20 and 21, a city official said on Thursday.

In a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report, MDRRMC Director Johnny Yu also asked Sto.Niño devotees who intend to join the procession to stay sober in order to avoid any untoward incidents, as he admitted that it would be difficult to implement a liquor ban in that area during the feast days.

Yu, nevertheless, said that he would seek the assistance of the Manila Police District (MPD) in the adherence to the gun ban as well as in ensuring peace and order in the two-day festivities.

Preparations for the upcoming occasion are underway with Tondo church officials anticipating some 30,000 devotees to attend the Feast of Sto Niño events this year, according to Yu.
