Taguig police nab gamblers who turn out to be robbers

/ 05:36 AM January 06, 2018

What police thought was just a group of men gambling early Friday morning in Taguig, turned out to be suspects in at least two robberies last year.

Taguig Police Community Precinct 7 arrested five men caught playing cara y cruz, at Block 8, Sitio 3, in Barangay Fort Bonifacio. Police identified them as Nicanor Canlas, 53; Nelson Villegas, 49; Reynario Acdog, 46; Jefson Musa, 22; and Willar Baula, 31. They are currently detained at the Taguig police station. Seized from Musa and Baula were a .38-caliber revolver and a .45-caliber Armscor pistol with serial number 825013.

Police also recovered identification cards owned by several persons. One of the ID owners, a certain Rachelle Macainan, said she was held up by six men in November 2017 along Chino Roces Avenue in Makati. When shown pictures of the suspects, Macainan pointed to Musa and Villegas as two of the suspects who robbed her.

Another owner of a recovered ID, a certain Madzni Unah, claimed she was also robbed in Mandaluyong in October 2017.—DEXTER CABALZA
