Cop linked to illegal activities killed in road accident

A policeman was killed on Thursday after his motorcycle rammed into a truck at the corner of Quezon Avenue and D. Tuazon Street in Quezon City.

PO3 Dexter Valencia, a former member of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) before his transfer to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Police Regional Office, died on the spot.

His passengers identified as SPO1 Walfredo Tan, 44, and Jomar Tan suffered injuries.

Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said all three men reeked of alcohol and were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

A report from the QCPD Traffic Enforcement Unit said Valencia and his companions were on their way to Manila when they collided with an Isuzu truck.

The truck driver, Lauro Padilla Jr., faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with multiple serious physical injuries and damage to property.

Eleazar said Valencia was transferred to ARMM from Quezon City in February 2017 after he was linked to illegal activities, including gambling. —Jhesset O. Enano
