Former San Juan City Vice Mayor Francis Zamora on Tuesday slammed as “absolutely absurd and hilarious” the accusations from Senator JV Ejercito that their family was behind the bomb scare near a plaza in San Juan where the latter had organized a concert.

“Yes I am aware that Sen JV is accusing me of the bomb threat in San Juan. This is absolutely absurd and hilarious!” Zamora said.

“First of all, I am just a private citizen, I don’t have any power or authority to make such bomb threats or similar acts, as opposed to them, they are in power, he is a senator, his mother is the mayor of San Juan and his father a former president of the Philippines and currently the mayor of Manila,” he added.

The former San Juan official also said “common sense will dictate that he is not in any way capable of doing” the threat.

Zamora also cited the recent decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to grant their petition to hold a recall election against Ejercito’s mother, Guia Gomez, who won as San Juan mayor over Zamora by around 1,000 votes.

“Our family is not using money or power to change the political landscape in San Juan, the fact is, 30,000 San Juaneños signed the recall petition against mayor Guia Gomez, this is a manifestation of the desire of the people of San Juan for change, they will just have to accept that,” he said.

“I suggest that the mayor should already receive the notice of sufficiency of the recall petition which the COMELEC San Juan Election Officer, Atty. Gary Bonifacio has been trying to serve to her since Dec. 15 so that the people of San Juan can ultimately decide whom they want as their mayor,” he added.

According to Zamora, Bonifacio has been unsuccessful in serving the notice because Gomez “has not been reporting to work in city hall and is nowhere to be found.”

“They should allow the recall election process to proceed and let the people of San Juan decide,” Zamora said. /je
