Amid the Christmas holiday rush, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded taxi drivers to stop engaging on imposing fixed rates as well as overcharging and snubbing passengers.
LTFRB board member Atty. Aileen Lizada held their “Oplan Isnabero” on Sunday night at the Ninoy Aquino Terminal Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2, where they accosted two taxi drivers, who allegedly tried to negotiate for a fixed rate.
Lizada also noted that some taxi drivers ignore falling in line within the taxi lane, using excuses like they were home-bound when they were in fact just looking for passengers.
“Ito yung sinasabi namin: Ayusin niyo lang ho yung pagtrabaho niyo. As a taxi driver, use the meter. Wag na kayong mangongontrata, wag na din kayong mangi-i-snub,” Lizada, said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
According to Lizada, taxi operators whose drivers would be caught imposing fixed rate or fares on passengers may be fined up to P120,000.
Lizada reiterated its call for the public to immediately report to the LTFRB if they have been victimized by unscrupulous taxi drivers. /kga
