3 soldiers wounded in battle with NPA rebels in Zamboanga del Sur

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three soldiers were wounded in a battle between government troops and communist rebels in Barangay Gasa in Lakewood town, Zamboanga del Sur on Friday.

The clash was between 30 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) and soldiers of the 53rd Infantry Battalion, according to Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, chief Zamboanga Peninsula Police Regional Office (PRO 9).

The battle took place on Mount Ganaan, Sitio Kilometer 22 in Baranga Gasa at 11:10 a.m. on Friday, resulting in a firefight that lasted for almost three hours.

Recovered were medical and dental kits with medicines, four rifle grenades, two M-16 magazines and two AK-47 magazines. –Julie Alipala /atm
