MMDA men on Edsa get body cameras

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) received on Thursday a donation of body cameras for its traffic constables, whose recordings will now form part of the documentation of apprehended motorists and can also be used as proof when pressing charges against road bullies.

MMDA chair Danilo Lim formally received 20 body cameras, which were issued to its enforcers manning choke points along Edsa.

Lim said making them wear cameras would also serve as a deterrent to “kotong” or extortion. “The body camera is a big help to traffic enforcers while performing their duty. Most of the time, they are the ones being accused of extortion,” Lim said.

The cameras were donated by the Worx Group of Companies.

The MMDA hopes to procure body cameras for more traffic enforcers next year, Lim said. —JOVIC YEE
