Morales to VACC: Impeach me? OK
In two words, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales on Wednesday shrugged off threats made by Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), a staunch ally of President Rodrigo Duterte, to file an impeachment complaint against her next week.
“OK. So?” she said.
Morales spoke to reporters after attending a forum at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
She said she had “nothing to say” about the VACC’s threat.
When asked whether she found the motive political, she said: “Everybody’s at liberty to file any complaint against anybody, including me.”
Answering a question about the Sandiganbayan decision to allow former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada to post bail in his plunder case, Morales said she was confident the prosecution’s evidence would stand in court.
“We have never been more confident about the evidence that we have,” she said.
