Ex-Abra mayor arrested for malversation

BAGUIO CITY – The former mayor of Licuan-Baay town in Abra province was arrested on Monday for malversation on the strength of a warrant issued by Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Sarah Jane Fernandez, according to the Cordillera police.

Christopher Millares Sr., who served as mayor until 2013, was arrested at 7 a.m. in Barangay (village) Bulbulala and was detained at the Abra office of the Police Crime Investigation and Detection Group.

Details of the charges have not been released at press time, although the police said Millares was granted bail of P6,000 for each of the two counts of malversation complaints he now faces.
