The dream of becoming a lawyer died with a 22-year-old political science student when fire broke out at their house in Quezon City Sunday afternoon.

A report to the Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as John Paul Uanan.  His mother Jocelyn was hurt in the blaze.

Jocelyn told police that Uanan, who was in third year at the New Era University, was taking up political science hoping to enter law school to become a lawyer.

Supt. Rosseli Cejas of the Batasan police station said the fire started in the kitchen of the victims’ four-story house on Steve Street in Barangay Commonwealth at 4:28 p.m. on Sunday.

The fire was put out about 20 minutes later. Uanan’s body was found in the hallway on the second floor.

Damage to property was estimated at P30,000 with the cause of the fire still under investigation. Jodee A. Agoncillo
