Inquirer Business is Ejap’s ‘Best News Source’ winner

EJAP AWARDS The Philippine Daily Inquirer’s business news team is named Ejap’s “Best News Source” at its 26th Business Journalism Awards. The Philippine Daily Inquirer was again named the best source for business news among the different media organizations represented at the 26th Business Journalism Awards of the Economic Journalists’ Association of the Philippines (Ejap), thanks to honors bagged by reporters Miguel Camus, Amy Remo and Doris Dumlao-Abadilla.

This was the fourth time that the Inquirer received the “Best News Source” trophy since the category was created in 2011.  The award is given to the media organization whose reporters garnered the most number of awards for best coverage of the various business beats and for best feature story of the year.

Named best reporter for his coverage of telecommunications and transport issues was Miguel Camus who also won in the same category last year, for a total of three reporter of the year plums in his career.

FEATURED STORIES

Camus is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a bachelor of science degree in economics. He has been  a reporter for nine years, having previously covered the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Philippine Stock Exchange, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Named best reporter for her coverage of trade and industry issues was Amy Remo, an Ateneo de Manila University graduate who joined the Inquirer in 2001 as an editorial assistant.  She has also covered the energy and agriculture beats, and now writes for the newspaper’s property section. This is her fifth award from the Ejap.

Also honored for best feature story of the year was Doris Dumlao-Abadilla, the Inquirer business section’s most senior reporter who has won recognition for her journalism both here and abroad.

15th award

Abadilla is a 1994 political science graduate of the University of the Philippines, and has been with the Inquirer since 1997.  This is her 15th award in various categories from the Ejap, the umbrella organization for the country’s business journalists.

The annual awards are supported by Ayala Corp.

This year’s judges were former Finance Undersecretary Milwida Guevara (chair), Rep. Arthur Yap, banker Marcelo Ayes, Ayala Infrastructure Chief Executive Officer Jose Rene Almendras, former Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, former National Power Corp. president Cyril del Callar, former SEC Commissioner Juanita Cueto and National Economic and Development Authority Director Victoria Quimbo.

The Inquirer team led by business editor Raul Marcelo and assistant business editor Corrie Narisma received the award from Ejap president Chino Leyco of the Manila Bulletin.  The Inquirer team also includes desk editors Tina Arceo-Dumlao and Ira Pedrasa; reporters Ben de Vera, Roy Canivel, Annelle Tayao-Juego and Karl Ocampo, and editorial assistant Princess Ominga.
