New director for government arsenal named

A former commander of the Army’s elite units was designated as the new director of the Government Arsenal, the Department of National Defense said on Thursday.

Retired Maj. Gen. Daniel Casabar, former commander of the Special Operations Command, replaced Director Jonathan Martir in a ceremony at Camp Gen. Antonio Luna in Limay, Bataan on Wednesday.

The Government Arsenal is responsible for the production basic weaponry and ammunition for the military, police and other government law enforcement agencies.

“I trust that the incoming Director, Maj. Gen. Casabar, can carry on the reforms and good governance the Maj. Gen. Martir started,” said Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

“I know that the Government Arsenal is in good hands with Maj. Gen. Casabar on top, confident that he can stir the GA to realize our long-time dream of having a self-reliant defense posture,” he also said.

With the self-reliant defense posture program, the arsenal aims to become the primary supplier of rifles and ammunition not only to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, but to all other government security agencies. Frances Mangosing
