MALALAG, Davao del Sur, Philippines—A battered housewife in Barangay San Isidro escaped death when the shotgun her husband allegedly tried to shoot her with  malfunctioned, the police said Thursday.

Senior Inspector Alexander Razonable, Malalag police chief, said Feliciana Tampos, 47, had to be rushed to a hospital for bruises and cuts, however, after her enraged husband, Felix, 41, hit her with the malfunctioning gun Wednesday night.

Razonable said Felix, who was drunk at that time, and Feliciana, were in the middle of a heated argument when the incident took place.
