CABANATUAN CITY – Police on Monday announced the arrest of a man and his wife who were accused of killing a pair of retired teachers at San Isidro town in Nueva Ecija province on April 26.

Marcelo and Jasmin Villafuerte have been tagged as the killers of Eusebio Matias, 69, and wife Sobrina, 65, at their home. The Matias couple were found dead from gunshot wounds.

The Villafuerte couple served as the Matias couple’s jewelry agents. They were caught in San Mateo town, Isabela province at 3:30 p.m. on Friday (July 14), said Senior Supt. Antonio Yarra, Nueva Ecija police director.

Yarra said the motive of the attack on the Matias couple was robbery. “At the night of the crime, the suspects were aware of a large shipment of jewelry that was due to arrive that day,” Yarra said. The jewelry was missing.
