New SC Justice Reyes takes oath before Sereno

Court of Appeals (CA) presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr. on Friday took his oath before Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno as the newest member of the Supreme Court.

Reyes took his oath at the Dignitaries Lounge of the high court around 1 p.m. with his family.

Present during his oath were SC Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio and Associate Justices Estela Perlas Bernabe, Bienvenido Reyes, Jose Catral Mendoza and Teresita Leonardo-De Castro.

Reyes was the third appointee of Duterte in high court. He will be taking the position vacated by Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes who compulsorily retired at the age of 70 on July 6, 2017.

Reyes obtained his law degree from the Ateneo and is a fraternity brother (Utopia) Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. He has been with the judiciary for 30 years.
