Vietnamese escapes Abu Sayyaf captors in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A Vietnamese national escaped from his Abu Sayyaf abductors in Ungkaya Pukan town in Basilan on Friday morning.

Colonel Juvymax Uy, commander of 104th Army Brigade, said Hoang Vo, a crew of the MV Royal 16, was one of the six Vietnamese nationals abducted by armed men who attacked their vessel off the coast of Sibago Island in Lamitan City in Basilan on November 11 last year.

Uy said Vo escaped from his abductors during a military operation in Ungkaya Pukan town and had sustained minor injuries during his escape.
He said five other captives were still in the hands of the Abu Sayyaf./rga
