Metrobriefs: Paranaque man slain inside ‘drug den’

/ 12:10 AM June 01, 2017

A Paranaque City resident was shot dead by unidentified gunmen Tuesday night inside an abandoned house which he had allegedly turned into a
drug den. Police said 45-year-old Greg Pabingwit was found lying on the floor of the house on Target Range II, Dela Rama Compound in Barangay BF Homes around 6 p.m. Senior Insp. Jerry Sunga, investigation section chief, said witnesses recalled seeing at least two men entering the house shortly before the shooting of Pabingwit, who lived in a nearby area called Clinic Site. Crime scene investigators recovered a bullet casing, a sachet with traces of suspected “shabu”, and drug paraphernalia. Quoting residents in the area, Sunga said the victim was a known drug user and had allegedly
used the abandoned house for drug sessions. A check with the police drug enforcement unit, however, showed that Pabingwit was not on its
watch list of drug users or pushers. Neither was he among those who had surrendered to authorities under “Oplan Tokhang.” Dexter Cabalza

Wounded inmate dies inside Paranaque police cell

A 52-year-old inmate, who was shot in the leg when arrested last week, died inside the overcrowded detention cell of the Parañaque City police on Monday. Renato Coyagbo, a resident of F. Cruz Compound in Barangay BF Homes, was declared dead on arrival at Ospital ng Parañaque minutes after fellow detainees found him unconscious around 4:30 a.m. Case investigators SPO2 Albert Boado and PO3 Jorefil Manigos said the body had “no external sign of injury or indication of possible foul play.”  The body was brought to People’s Funeral Services in Las Piñas for autopsy. According to his case record, Coyagpo resisted arrest and was shot in the leg by a team from Police Community Precinct 5, who were then responding to a commotion in his neighborhood on May 23. He was charged the following day with alarm and scandal, direct assault and illegal possession of a bladed weapon. In an interview on Wednesday, one of the station officers, SPO1 Chito Arguelles, said Coyagbo received medical treatment before he was
detained. When the Inquirer saw the 40-square meter detention area on the station’s fifth floor, it was holding 112 inmates or more than thrice its intended capacity of 30 persons. Dexter Cabalza
