DAGUPAN CITY — All the coastal areas of the country, including Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan, are now free of red tide.

The red tide scourge struck the two aquaculture towns on April 8.

On Friday (May 26), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) issued Shellfish Bulletin No. 17, series of 2017, to announce that shellfish collected from all coastal waters BFAR had been monitoring tested negative of red tide.

Red tide is also called the harmful algal bloom phenomenon, referring to the unusual growth of colonies of toxic and non-toxic algae in the water, some of which produce toxins that harm certain types of sea life, according to the BFAR website. –Yolanda Sotelo /atm
