Elderly woman killed by lightning in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY – A 64-year-old woman died when she was hit by lightning in Norala, South Cotabato on Monday.

Popoy Kale said he and his mother Diday were inside their house in Purok Tuburan, Barangay San Miguel, when the lightning struck during a thunderstorm at 4 p.m. Monday.

As a strong thunder reverberated, she ran inside her room. Then the lightning struck.

“I smelled something burning inside the room so I ran inside and saw smoke as she lay down on the floor, gasping for air,” Popoy said.

He and other relatives rushed his mother to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital here where she was declared dead.  SFM/rga
