Buy coffee and give shelter to the homeless

/ 06:55 AM November 05, 2011

VIENNA Kaffeehaus teamed up with Raise a Village Organization and the municipality of Talibon in Bohol to help build houses for the underprivileged families in Jao Island.

Jao Island in Bohol is near the Danajon Bank, one of the six documented double barrier reefs in the world.

Because it is situated in a rare geological location, only few visit the place and not much commerce happens in the island.

Being far from civilization, the island is facing problems that contribute to homelessness, poverty and lack of education.

Fortunately, Vienna Kaffeehaus and the Raise a Village Organization agreed to promote community outreach projects in the island, such as scholarship, nutrition and livelihood programs.

Last Sept. 23, the group announced in a press conference its noble vision at Vienna Kaffeehaus on A.S. Fortuna Street, Banilad, Mandaue City.

The occasion was graced by Rotary Club of Cebu president Chito Misa, Rotary International District co-chairman Jun Ferreros, Raise a Village Organization head Fr. Ned Disu and Vienna Kaffeehaus owners Raymond and Melanie Basubas.

Part of the proceeds from Vienna’s coffee will build houses for the underprivileged families in Jao Island. They were chosen as beneficiaries because they are experiencing extreme poverty.

The original Vienna Kaffeehaus disclosed that it is sharing some of its profits in all its branches for the construction or repair of homes in the relocation site for the homeless beneficiaries in sitio Paraiso.

The public is requested to join in the advocacy by buying coffee from any Vienna Kaffehaus branch.
