HUSBAND HANGS SELF

A 31-YEAR-OLD tricycle driver was found hanging dead by the neck after he and his wife fought inside their house in barangay Tangke, Talisay City, southern Cebu, last Tuesday night.
Police identified the fatality as Cresenciano Cabanes Jr.
It was his second attempt to kill himself that day.
Police said the couple’s  argument escalated when Cabanes mauled his wife.
At 4 p.m. a cousin found the man hanging by the neck in the house.  The cousin cut him down, rescuing Cabanes from his suicide attempt.
The  wife  reported the domestic trouble to the police.   She wanted her husband  arrested.
When the police arrived, the driver was found hanging by the neck again. He was  rushed to the Talisay District Hospital where attending physicians declared him dead.

MAN NABBED FOR MAULING LOVER

A 29-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after he allegedly mauled his live-in partner in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, last Tuesday night.
Police said they arrived in the apartment on A. C. Cortes Street and  found Rolito Fuentes  pointing a .45  pistol at Katrina Capuyan, 24.
A  neighbor had reported to the police past 9 p.m. that the man was beating his  girlfriend.
Fuentes was detained at the Subangdaku police station.
He will  be charged with  illegal possession of firearm and violence against women, said police./STC INTER TWEENY MALINAO

MAN STABBED BY BROTHER

A MAN was stabbed and wounded by his brother in barangay Anislag, Pinamungajan town, western Cebu, last Monday.
Nario Laraño was wounded in the foot.
The suspect, Faustino  Laraño, was arrested by police after the incident. He was later released after Nario decided not file charges against his brother.
Police said Nario was with some friends at home  when a drunk Faustino arrived around 4 p.m.
A commotion broke out when Faustino attacked Nario with a knife.
Police said it was not immediately known what triggered the violence.

EX-MAYOR’S DRIVER HURT IN ROAD ACCIDENT

A DRIVER of a former mayor in Santander town, southern Cebu, was injured after the multicab he was driving was hit by a bus  yesterday noon.
Salvador Gumagay sustained wounds in the legs.
He was rushed to a hospital in Dumaguete City by Arnold Abines, former Santander mayor, said PO2 Noel Estender.
Police said Gumagay had just come out from the house of Abines when the multicab was hit by a Ceres bus driven by Jose Roseller, 38.
The impact smashed the multicab’s windshield.
Police said Roseller may have failed to see the multicab because the accident happened in a blind curve.
Roseller was brought to the police station after the incident but he was later released after reaching an amicable settlement with the mayor’s driver.
Police said the Ceres bus management agreed to shoulder Gumagay’s medical expenses.
Police said Gumagay was driving a multicab with an expired  motor vehicle registration./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
