Baguio grows coldest on Valentine’s Day

The mercury dropped to 8 degrees Celsius in Baguio City on Tuesday, Valentine’s Day, the coldest on record since the start of the year.

The temperature was recorded at 6 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Other parts of Benguet usually have colder weather.

The city of Baguio recorded its lowest temperature on Jan. 19, 1961, when it hit 6.3 degrees.

The northeast monsoon has been blowing cold Siberian air down over the entire archipelago, leading to the nippy weather. This weather system may last up to the end of February or early March.

Cloudy skies with light rain are expected over Metro Manila and the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Calabarzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao and the provinces of Aurora and Mindoro on Tuesday.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain. CBB/rga
