Mayor’s consultant shot dead in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan—The consultant of Santa Ana Mayor Darwin Tobias was shot dead on Saturday morning (Jan. 21) by two motorcycle-riding gunmen at Visitacion village in this Cagayan town.

Oscar Oñate died after he was shot multiple times in the head and body, said Chief Insp. Garry Matagay, Santa Ana police chief.

The gunmen may have followed to Oñate to the town’s quarry site which he was inspecting.

Before he was attacked, witnesses said they saw Oñate speaking briefly with the gunmen, suggesting he knew his killers.

Matagay said the police are reviewing footages recorded by closed circuit television cameras posted in various streets near the crime scene.
