Robredo to Marcos allies: Who has history of stealing?

COMPOSTELA VALLEY—Between her and the late dictator’s son and namesake Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Vice President Leni Robredo thinks Marcos is more capable of stealing, even if it’s the vice presidency.

“Parang between the two of us, kung sino ‘yung mas may history ng pagnanakaw, hindi yata ako,” Robredo told reporters in Monkayo, Compostela Valley on Tuesday.

Robredo, even as she resigned as the head of the government’s shelter agency, paid a visit to the Lower Ulip resettlement project for Typhoon Pablo victims in Barangay (village) Poblacion to check the situation of housing beneficiaries.

In an ambush interview after a brief program led by local officals, Robredo minced no words when she was asked to give a comment on the Marcos camp’s reaction to her statement that she would not let the vice presidency be stolen from her.

Marcos’s counsel Vic Rodriguez on Monday said that Robredo’s statement was “the height of hypocrisy,” saying it was Robredo who took away the vice presidency from his client and not the latter.

“The vice presidency has indeed been stolen and it was stolen by no less than Mrs. Robredo herself and the political party she continuously supports. It was they who thwarted the will of the Filipino people by depriving them of their real choice for the vice presidency,” Rodriguez said.

Robredo, a former activist during themartial law regime, has been very critical of the Marcos family for their alleged ill-gotten wealth and the human rights abuses committed during the dictatorship of the Marcos patriarch.

The younger Marcos and former senator lost to Robredo by a slim margin of over 200,000 votes during the elections last May. This prompted him to file a protest against Robredo.  CBB/rga
