Grenade lobbed at Apayao mayor’s house; 1 killed

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines — A hand grenade was thrown at the house of an Apayao mayor in this city on Saturday night (Dec. 3), killing his caretaker and injuring his son.
Caretaker Medriano Pelic died from grenade shrapnel.
Shrapnel also struck the foot of Lomark Dangoy, son of Conner Mayor Leonardo Dangoy, according to the Tuguegarao police.
The mayor had just arrived at Barangay Caritan Norte with his wife and family and was in their dining room having coffee when they heard an explosion at 7 p.m., police said.
Neighbors said they heard gunshots prior to the blast.
Mayor Dangoy said he was puzzled by the attack, saying he had no known enemies. CBB/rga
