The wife of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov was heavily criticized after performing a Holocaust-themed ice skating routine live on Russian TV on Saturday.

Together with Andrey Burkovskiy, Tatiana Navka executed a performance inspired by the 1997 Italian movie “Life Is Beautiful,” which narrates the struggles of a Jewish man and his family inside a concentration camp. The skating duo wore the striped clothes and six-pointed star badges Jewish prisoners wore during incarceration and glided to the tune of “Beautiful That Way,” which was one of the film’s tracks, Hollywood Reporter said.

Her “entertaining” portrayal of war burden, which was aired on reality show “Ice Age,” was slammed by netizens. A lot of angry comments, such as”Disgusting. What goes around, comes around,” This is so disrespectful and sick” and “six million thumbs down,” flooded Navka’s Instagram photo of the skating routine.

There were several Instagram users who were amazed at her performance, such as one user who said, “Beautiful piece of work. Thank you for reminding the world of the horrors of the past and reminding us that art is there to challenge, not just entertain.”

Navka, a 41-year-old Olympian, mentioned in an Instagram post that their choreography was not meant to disrespect Jews. “Our children need to remember that terrible time, which I hope, God willing, they will never know,” she captioned her post.

Jerusalem Post reported that this was not the first time Russian performers used the Holocaust as a theme for their dances. Earlier in April, Russia’s version of “Dancing with the Stars” featured a dance routine depicting a Nazi soldier locating a young Jewish girl hiding in a piano.  Gianna Francesca Catolico
