Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, among the petitioners against a hero’s burial for the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, said the next move of the camp was to file a motion to exhume the body after Marcos was sneaked in for his burial on Friday.

In a statement, Lagman said the motion to exhume would see to it if the body buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani earlier Friday was not the wax figure, housed in a mausoleum in Marcos’ hometown in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

“In view of the premature Marcos burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB), the petitioners in the Supreme Court are contemplating to file a motion to order the exhumation of what remains of Marcos which was precipitately and stealthily interred in the LNMB,” Lagman said.

“If the ‘remains’ of the dictator are exhumed, then it is opportune that a forensic examination be conducted to determine whether what was buried were his mortal remains or a mere wax replica,” he added.

Lagman added that the petitioners would ask the Supreme Court to cite those persons involved in contempt for burying the body before the decision was final and executory.

Lagman earlier filed a manifestation with the Supreme Court that the petitioners’ motion for reconsideration not be rendered moot and academic by a burial if it happens. RAM/rga
