ITCZ to bring rains over southern PH

/ 09:40 AM November 01, 2016

Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol region, Mimaropa and Calabarzon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains on Tuesday.

An intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), or a merge of winds from different directions and a breeding ground of potential low pressure area (LPA), is affecting southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

A low pressure area was also spotted 645 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao, del Sur. Pagasa weather forecaster Jaime Bordales said by phone that the LPA has a low probability of becoming a tropical cyclone.

An LPA outside PAR, located 1,925 east of Mindanao, is likely to intensify into a tropical depression within 24 to 48 hours. It is forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday night, he added.

If the LPA strengthens into a tropical cyclone, it will be locally named “Marce.”

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains is expected over the provinces of Cagayan and Ilocos Norte. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, Pagasa said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas. IDL
