The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will soon convert its impounding area in Pasig City into a hospital for road accident victims.

MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said the facility would be donated by the city government of Daegu, South Korea.

Construction of the hospital, which will have at least 25 beds, is expected to start next year.

Orbos said Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin made the commitment on the sidelines of the World Cities Forum, which he attended in South Korea last week.

He cited the pledges as a testament to the country’s “strong ties” with South Korea.

Last year, the MMDA recorded 519 deaths and 17,103 injuries due to road accidents, mostly involving motorbikes.  —JOVIC YEE/rga
