Probe ‘senseless’ killing of Mati prosecutor, NBI, PNP urged
The Department of Justice (DOJ) urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a parallel investigation surrounding the circumstances on the death of Mati City Prosecutor Rolando Acido.
In separate statements, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, head of the DOJ’s National Prosecution Service, condemned the killing of Acido, calling the act “cowardly and senseless.”

“The timing and circumstances of the ambush against City Prosecutor Acido raise serious question about whether it was related to his work as a prosecutor,” Arellano said.
“The ambush of City Prosecutor Acido is another tragic episode in the sordid saga of the dangers faced by our prosecutors in the performance of their duties,” he added.
Aguirre, on the other hand, said the DOJ will look for ways to assist the family of Acido.
