The Local Goverment Code is signed into law in 1991. The law, authored by then Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, aims to decentralize the power and responsibility to local government units in the delivery of basic services.
The opium law, or Act. No. 1761, which restricts and regulates the use and sale of opium and other dangerous drugs, is signed into law in 1907. Violators are fined not exceeding P10,000 or imprisoned for less than five years, or both.
Oct. 12
Corregidor, a small rocky island west of Manila, is turned over to the Philippines in 1947 after it was occupied by the Japanese in May 1942 and the Americans in March 1945.
The island in Cavite served as a fortress to the Filipino and American soldiers from the invading Japanese forces during World War II.
Oct. 15
In 2012, the Philippine government and leaders of the Moro International Liberation Front (MILF) sign the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro, a preliminary accord on ending war in the southern Philippines. Hundreds of MILF commanders set foot on the Palace for the first time during the affair.
