Woman, child murdered in UP campus home
MANILA, Philippines—A woman and her seven-year-old child were murdered over the weekend right inside their home in a residential portion of the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman, Quezon City.
The bloodied remains of Edna Brizuela were found stuffed inside a cabinet inside her bedroom, while her son Jadie, 7, was discovered sprawled on the bed.
The victim’s brother, Danilo Macaraig, discovered the mother and child at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Greenthumb Garden along C.P. Garcia Ave. in Barangay UP Campus.
Superintendent Osmundo de Guzman, Anonas police station commander, said police have been looking for the woman’s live-in partner, a certain Biogno, after investigators learned Brizuela and her child were killed after she had an argument with her lover.
Brizuela, 38, and her son bore multiple stab wounds.
De Guzman said the brother became worried after not seeing his sister come out of her house for some days now.
A rotten odor greeted Macaraig at the door of the Brizuela home, after which he found the bodies of his sister and nephew.
Witnesses recalled seeing the mother and child alive on Saturday, with the child even seen playing on the road.
Neighbors reportedly heard Brizuela and her lover arguing loudly inside their house.
Some neighbors also claimed seeing Biogno on Sunday to get his belongings, De Guzman added.
