De Lima: Duterte trust rating to dive if he won’t change attitude

Senator Leila de Lima warned on Friday that President Rodrigo Duterte’s trust rating would be further eroded if he would not change his attitude.
De Lima noted that from 91 percent in July, Duterte’s rating went down to 64 percent based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from September 24 to 27.

“Di ba (Isn’t it) 91 percent two months ago, in July? And I knew that na-erode na yun but nagulat ako na ganun kababa (it was eroded but I was surprised it was too low). Ganun ang dive nya (It dived), 64 percent. I thought it would still be from 75 percent to 85 percent pero ngayon (but now) it’s 64 percent but they are trying to spin it, very good pa yan (it’s still very good), the satisfaction rating. But if you compare that really to 91 percent, what does it tell you?” she said in an interview at the Senate.
The 91 percent trust rating that the senator was referring to was based on the survey conducted by the Pulse Asia from July 2 to 8 this year.

De Lima said Duterte’s trust rating would be further eroded if he would continue his “oppression” “persecution” as well as his attacks on the international community.
“Kung hindi sya magbabago, hindi sya magbabago dyan sa pananalita nya, yung kabastusan nya, yung pang o-oppress nya, I’m exhibit of that acts of oppression and persecution, kung ganun ang kanyang attitude sa international community, international media, sa mga global leaders palagi nyang dinuduro ang US, President Obama, UN, European parliament bababa pa talaga yan,” she said.
(If he won’t change his language, rudeness, oppression […and] exhibit … acts of oppression and persecution, if his attitude toward the international community, international media, global leaders remains and he continues to point at US, President Obama, UN and European parliament, it would continue to erode.)
“Dapat ho magbago na sya pero makakaasa ba tayong magbabago na, magbabago sya? E nasa character na nya yun, matanda na ho sya, masyado na ho syang matanda para magbago (He should change but could we expect him to change? It’s his character, he’s too old to change).”
“Pero sana as a Filipino, I’m sincere about this, sana as a Filipino, pag-isipan nya po yan, pag isipan po ng kanyang mga adviser yan (But as a Filipino, I’m sincere about this, I hope his advisers would think about it),” the senator added. RAM/rga
