The dog’s owner held his pet up behind the Pope, who posed for media photographers during his morning audience with bystanders and tourists on Wednesday. The impromptu photobombing scene became one of the most remarkable photographs snapped in Vatican.

Also, Pope Francis petted and blessed the adorable canines and members of the Federazione Italiana Sport Cinofili, an Italian organization dedicated to dog sports. He spent time shaking their hands and giving them blessings.

He also met with brides and grooms who sought his blessing, Daily Mail reported. During his speech, the Pontiff reminded the crowd to be “missionaries in the family by announcing with word and example the gospel of salvation.”  Gianna Francesca Catolico/rga
